When we speak to judges about online privacy protection, we always stress that the danger of having their private information accessible online is very real.

Sadly, that point was proven yet again just days ago in Wisconsin, where a retired judge, Hon. John Roemer, was murdered in what police describe as a targeted attack. According to the state’s attorney general, the gunman had selected targets who were "part of the judicial system,” and that the targeting was based on court cases.

The Killer Found The Judge’s Address Through Publicly Available Databases

Judge Esther Salas, whose son was killed in a similar attack, said this was yet another tragic reminder of the risk that comes with a black robe. “We’re in a unique position. We preside over cases and 50% of the time people are not happy with us,” Salas said. “If the death of my 20-year-old son and now of Judge Roemer doesn’t say we need something done to protect this personally identifiable information, I don’t know what will.”

Laws Are Coming – But They Won’t Be Enough

Some states already have laws that allow judges to have their home addresses and phone numbers removed from the internet, and federal legislation should soon make that protection applicable throughout the country. But a law is just words on paper unless it is enforced.

That’s what we do.

IronWall360 is our privacy protection service available to judges nationwide. Our security team uses our proprietary software to scan the internet, and when we find your address and phone number, we contact that website and make sure that content comes down. And we don’t take no for an answer.

This service is available now.

Secure Your Safety Now

According to the US Marshals Service, threats and inappropriate comments made to the judiciary nearly doubled from 2016 to 2018 and have remained at an elevated level — about 4,500 in 2021 — ever since. Marshals are heroes but they do not have the resources to investigate every threat against 30,000 judges, federal prosecutors, and court officials.

By acting now you can eliminate potential threats of harassment, vandalism and violence before they happen. Our service can also be used to provide your spouse and children with the same online privacy protection. Let’s stop these tragedies before they can happen.
